Enjoy instant messaging and VoIP services with this free application.
Even though the best known is
Skype, there are many programs within the range of applications known as
Softphones, this means, software that simulates the use of a telephone through a computer. An example is
WengoPhone, a
free application that also has a version with GNU GPL license.
WengoPhone is one of these applications that allows the use of the
VoIP services, based on the SIP standard just like
Express Talk or
Zoiper. The objective of these applications is to provide the possibility to perform calls or videoconferences at
cheaper rates, thanks to the VoIP technology.
One of the most favorable things about
WengoPhone is
how easy it is to use, because its interface is very similar to that os some of the most important instant messenger applications, like MSN Messenger. But, what's more, it stands out because it doesn't only integrate VoIP services, it also allows the possibility to perform
free calls between two computers, chat or instant messenger conversations with any instant messenger application, be it
Microsoft, Yahoo!, Jabber or AOL.
Note: It is no longer possible to use the application by means of the Wengo registry, thus making it necessary to have a SIP proxy to be able to use it. All the services associated to the Wengo account are no longer necessary.
